Rachel (Hebrew: רחל‎, Rāḫēl; "lovely") (d. 2212 AM 1947 BC
1814 H
2212 AM
) was the second wife of Jacob and mother of Joseph and Benjamin. She was the younger daughter of Laban and the younger sister of Leah.

Jacob first met Rachel by a well. He quickly fell in love with her. Jacob made a deal with Laban that he would work for Laban for seven years to get permission to marry Rachel. But Laban tricked Jacob into marrying Leah, Rachel's older sister.

Jacob, still in love with Rachel, struck another deal with Laban to work another seven years to get permission to marry Rachel. Eventually, Jacob also married Rachel.

She died while giving birth to Benjamin. There is a site in Israel today that is claimed to be the burial site of Rachel.
