The Pitcher Plant is a type of carnivorous flower plants, which belong to the taxonomic family Sarraceniaceae. They have a long tall leaf is in the shape of a pitcher, and has eye-catching colors. Inside the leaf, at the bottom, there is a sweet smelling liquid, which is what digests its prey. This trap is called the pitfall trap. The sweet scent draws insects to it. The leaf is lined with a slick slippery liquid. When the insect lands on it, it slips and slides into the leaf landing in the liquid where it is digested. In this liquid are digestive enzymes and other parasitic organism that decompose living tissue. The Pitcher plant enjoys a symbiotic relationship with these parasites as they both gather nutrients from the decomposed tissue.[1]
