Durian is a species of fruit tree known by the scientific name (Durio zibethinus), which is also known as the King of Fruits. The word of durian came from Malay word “duri” which means thorns.  It mainly grows in South Asia and It is also famous fruit in South Asia however it has bad smell. The smell can described like fermented onions,rotten eggs and stale fish. So some place in South Asia prohibits Durian to bring into the building. However besides the smell, it tastes really good. In 15th century, Venetian Merchant, Niccolo Da Conti who was traveling western Asia and China referred about Durian fruit in his document.The Portuguese physician, Garcia De Orta wrote on his book, Coloquois dos Simples e Drogas da about durian and German Botanist, Georg Eberhard Rumphius wrote on Herbarium in 1974 more detailed and researched well about Durian.
Durian trees are tall, they can grow up to 150 feet in the rain forest.They can live 80 to 150 years, some of trees can live more than 150 years the durian leaf is alternate, it has green color and shine on upper surface. On the underside surface, silvery and reddish-brown color covered the leaf. The Durian's leaf is approximately 10 inches long and 3 inches wide.  Durian flower is big,yellowish green colored. Durian flower produces nectar. The length of flower is 10-18cm long and 3-7cm wide. The durian fruit, has large in size, and oval shaped. The rind is thick, covered with semi-wood with sharply pointed spines and its length is approximately 20 - 35 cm long, diameter is about 18 - 22cm  and it weighs around 2-5 kg.Inside of the fruit,a yellowish fleshy layer covers large seeds.
Durian's blooming usually occurs at night. The main pollinators are honeybees,bats and moths. Honeybees visit the flower during early afternoon, and bats and moths work during the midnight. The natural pollination happens only at night. The durian mostly has self-incompatibility which means not able to do self-pollination. As a result, Durian is not capable of production in many fruits. When the seed is exposed to high temperature or low temperature, they quickly become losing their functions. And, durian seeds grow up well in soil which has rich nutrients. Durian is propagated by seeds. They germinate within about 3-4 days. It takes around 2 months to grow up the suitable size and conditions for grafting which is the common method of propagation.
Durian is a tropical fruit,also native fruit in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and some South Asian countries.It is most planted in typical areas where has 75-80% of moisture and precipitation is around 1600 - 4000 ml per year however it cannot grow when the attitude is over than 4000 feet. It is suitable when the temperature is between 24 and 30 Celsius. If the temperature is lower than 6 and 7 Celsius, the leaf falls down. And The temperature is around 14 and 16 Celsius during 5 - 7 days, Durian will flower.The soil type of the Durian needs is acidic,pH requires around 5.0 - 6.5.pH
Durian has lots of nutrient content including plenty of sugar, vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin E, high iron content, tryptophan, potassium, carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Durian's roots and leaves were medicine to traditional doctors for fevers and jaundice and leaves and fruits are used for swelling and skin diseases. Durian fruit help to clean the blood and also helps lower cholestrol. Science researchers found that Durian is good medicine for people who suffer from insomnia, anxiety and depression. Because durian helps mood elevation, increases optimism, make people calm down from the stress and increases metabolism
