Paper Birch is a species of deciduous tree known by the scientific name Betula papyrifera. They are native to North America and Canada, like British Columbia, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, etc.[2] These trees are also used to symbolized the state of New Hampshire. In addition, the paper birch trees mostly grow in forests and rocky mountain ridge due to its wide range and incumbent genetic diversity. In facts, the Paper Birch is the most widely distributed birch tree in North America and also Canada. Body Design
In cold climates the paper birch can grow really big - typically reaching 66 ft (20 meters) tall and occasionally as tall as 130 feet (40 m). However, they will stop growing if the weather on where they live is humid and hot.[5]They are deciduous tree, and therefore during the autumn, the leafs color will turn yellow.[6]
Paper Birch is one of the trees that have a unique trunk. Most of the trunks color on this tree is usually white and peals-off in strips that resembles paper - thus the name "paper birch". However, there are some that is dark brown. The trunk that is dark brown are usually the bark of young tree, which is the tree that just grow maybe for a couple months or years. Most of this tree height average 50 to 70 feet tall, and the width are usually 15 to 25 feet wide. Nevertheless, the paper birch tree also has a short and flat leaves which is only 4-8 cm long and 2-5 cm wide. The shape of the leaves was deltoid, which is a triangular. Paper birch also produces flower which is a catkins up to 2-4 inches. Catkins is a flower that is cylindrical with no petals, which is usually pollinated by the wind or insects. [7]
Life Cycle
Paper Birch tree is a unique tree among any other tree, it is known for it short living period, especially when they live in a humid weather which will make the tree not gonna grow normally. This tree is really interesting, especially when it comes to life cycle. Paper Birch is a tree that can't handle heat and humidity for long, that is why this tree is well known for a short lived tree that is native to Northern America. However, paper birch tree are able to lives and grows in a cold weather, which the tree can stay up for at least 95 years. Paper birch tree are mostly grows and lives in the United States is because the weather here is nice and not humid, which is a great place for paper birch to grow bigger and live for a long time.[8]
Paper Birch tree is a tree that grows by seed, and this tree can grow really big and high, especially in a good weather. Therefore, this tree can't lived for so long. The average life period for this tree is 100 years, which that is not a long period for plants. On the normal lifespan, Paper birch lives for 80-120 years. This tree is however unique, because during the autumn season, all the leafs will turn yellow. Besides the autumn season, the color of the leafs are usually green, most of them are dark green, but there are also some light green. [9]

They thrive in cold areas. When they live in a cold environments, the tree usually lives longer and grows taller. The paper birch tree reaches the southern and western limits of its natural range in British Columbia, Canada. where it grows in numbers except parts of the beaches and the islands. They grows more in the Cordilleran mountains than in the pacific region.[11]
Other Facts
As it says earlier that the paper birch tree is not gonna grow well in a humid weather, this tree also have a problem in a cool weather. Even though they live in a cool weather, the branch of the tree usually break easily on a windy day, especially during the winter season when the snow and ice started to drop. Another facts about paper birch is that this tree are usually called canoe birches for some reason. Besides living in a mountain ridge, the paper birch tree also like to be in a moist stream banks and lakeside in Northeastern United States and Canada. Paper Birch is a single trunk tree, but however, nurseries like to put them in clumps of trees, which is why some people call the tree "Clumping Birches." In facts, this paper birch tree is the most widely distributed birch tree in North America, including Canada.[12]
The white bark of this tree will turn color in the season of spring. In spring, the bark also produce hanging clusters of catkins that are very attractive. Betula Papirifera is also a tree that is known to attract some animals like caterpillars, birds, including yellow bellied sap suckers, black-capped chickadees, tree sparrows, and pine siskins. Paper Birch tree are very popular because this tree are usually the resources to create and produced paper.[13]
