Russian CreationWiki

Progress

Alexander:

The Russian site is now active.

To see what I've made it look like:

 1. Navigate to the Main Page here on the English site.
 2. Look down at the bottom of the sidebar. You will see a language link reading "Russian."
 3. Follow that link.

As you will see, I have begun by adapting your work. I am not finished yet; I have much more to do. Sadly, I must reserve the layout to me and to other administrators. But I intend to preserve the links you made to the articles that you had started work on.

And I'd like to show you another thing I did:

 1. Navigate to Redshift.
 2. Look for the Russian language link.
 3. Follow it.

You will see the work that you had so far done to translate the Redshift article--except that now it will be on the Russian site.

I made one change: I removed the tiny images intended to reproduce the mathematical formulas. Long ago we installed the Math extension of MediaWiki, so I recreated those equations using "math" tags.

I also added an English language link at the bottom, and also created Category links. When you translate an article, we ask that you create categories for it that mirror the categories on the English site. With your knowledge of the MediaWiki engine, you should find that task easy to perform.

You had also started to translate the articles on Creation and Creationist. Now you are free to move that work on to the Russian site and continue your work there.

You need never reload an image! All images are on the Media Archive (or if they are not, I can move them there, as I did with the images for Redshift).

We (the administration) still have much to do. And eventually I would like to show you how to use our Semantic MediaWiki system. You can see an example of what that system can do by reading a few annotated articles, like Earth, Sun, Jupiter, and Voyager 2.

In Him,

RE: Progress

Dear Telmacos, Thank you for your work and detailed help.

1) I've created some categories, templates and other useful things.

2) Sadly, I have not rights to edit the Main Page of Russian Site, but is it necessary for adding/editing old and new links. In present, all links are created as redirecting for correct page. :-(

3) Please describe "Semantic MediaWiki system" in details, I'm not understand.

4) What about subject portals, I can't see it, right now.

5) Please, look at these talk pages (1, 2, 3) and protect the templates (as requested).

6) Personal question: What do you think about Hovind's ministry and about Kent's conviction?

Alexander Korolev 00:42, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Dear Alexander (or Aleksandr, as I believe your name transliterates into Russian):

1) I've seen some of your work. I believe you have it linked to your Russian user page. In this regard: You should remember to place language links at the bottom of anything you translate from the English site, so that I may be sure of what you are trying to duplicate and can jump back and forth between versions. The form of a language link is the language code ("en" for English, "ru" for Russian, "de" for German, "fr" for French, etc.), then a colon, then the name of the item in the other language. All this must be enclosed in double brackets. You may study the links I left at the bottom of the article Redshift and its Russian equivalent.

2) Main pages have definite conventions that both of us must follow. I see that you have created several templates for use in the Main Page. I need to know what those are, and their English equivalents. I can place language links as appropriate, and then incorporate them into a standard Main Page layout. Be advised that the Main Page uses the following templates:

Template:Featured article Template:Featured picture Template:News

Main pages other than the English main page also require a template, which in English is spelled "menu," for some of the most common articles. Please see fr:Modèle:Menu for details.

In addition, the templates called in English "Featured article" and "Featured picture" always include links to specific categories for featured articles and featured pictures. These serve as our archives for featured items.

(The English word "feature" as the noun or the verb actually means "promotion" or "to promote." Please feel free to give this concept a proper Russian name. All I ask is that you tell me what it is, so that I may place language links to its English equivalent.)

I'll have to look at the other templates you have created and see how to use them on the Main Page.

3) To start to learn about "Semantic MediaWiki," please begin reading at Help:Semantics. I will try to update some of the external links as soon as possible.

4) As I mentioned before, subject portals will have to wait until the Russian site is better populated. The standard that we follow is that a subject must have twenty articles in it before it is worthy of a portal. When you have translated twenty articles on any given subject, I will ask Mr. Ashcraft to help create a portal logo, and then you and I can build a portal for that subject, and build the navigational toolbar.

5) I'll follow those links as soon as I can. Be advised, however, that once I protect a template, even you may not edit it; only I may edit it. Let us work together and build the Main Page as it should be, and then I hope to have you translating more articles.

6) I respect Kent Hovind almost as much as I respect any other creationist. He acted foolishly in challenging the government's authority to collect taxes from him. St. Paul told everyone to pay taxes (literally, tribute) to those to whom such sums are due. Mr. Hovind evidently thought that St. Paul's example of challenging the Roman tribune's decision to examine him under torture was a proper example of how to deal with the tax authority. I disagree. Now his witness is damaged, as noncreationists simply have an excuse to dismiss anything he says, purely on account of his conviction for tax evasion.

In closing: Your work on the site's main page is very much appreciated. But I want to start you in translating articles as soon as possible. And when you do: I appreciate your placing links to English-language articles. But eventually I would like you to translate those articles into Russian and then link to the Russian-language articles. As long as you can keep track of the links you place, I can approve of what you are now doing, so long as we both understand that this is only temporary. That aside, I encourage you to translate whatever articles are most interesting to you.

In addition, I might, from time to time, ask you to help me translate some short system messages, so long as this does not detract from your translation of articles. I won't ask you to translate articles on Policy unless and until you can recruit more Russian editors to help populate the Russian site. But I would suggest one other article that you ought to build a Russian version of: CreationWiki:Current events. You should fill that article with events of interest to creationists in Russia. Please do not worry about translating listings of events on the English site, unless you believe that a Russian might be interested in attending any of those events.

You may if you wish translate any article to which the Sidebar provides a link. But again: the creation and translation of articles is your first priority, after we finish building the Main Page.

As an editor, you have the right to create and edit articles, your user page (and I thank you for your improvement to my user page), templates, Help pages, categories, essays, and Semantic MediaWiki properties, types, and concepts. You also may create and edit any Talk page. Only the Main Page and the MediaWiki namespace remain closed to you.

We ask that you upload all images to the common Media Archive. I moved your image to that Archive an hour ago. In that manner you may use that same image on your User page here on the English site as well as on the Russian one. For the moment I have directed that you have the sole right to use your photograph to illustrate your user page and autobiography. If you are comfortable in releasing your photograph under the GNU Free Documentation License, we ask that you make a declaration on the image page in the Media Archive. You may make it both in English and in Russian.

Thank you very much, and I hope to resume work later on, after I have had some sleep.

TemlakosTalk 04:24, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Postscript:

As of this moment, I have incorporated your Main Page templates into the Main Page. This will give you more control over the content of the page, though the layout remains in my hands.

For now, your template describing your current projects can remain. Later on, we can build the Community Portal and Help Wanted pages, which are better pages for such a list of projects.

The Main Page could use the following equivalent templates:

Once we have these, I will lay out the Main Page to include these templates.

You will need to take your listings for the articles and essays that you have written and place these inside a template. Then I can use that template in the new layout. You may name this template however you prefer. I suggest the Russian equivalent of the English term "menu" as it is used in information technology. Also, how do you say this in Russian: "Menu of articles."

If you have trouble with certain English words, please contact me on my User Talk page, on either the English or the Russian site; I watch them both. I noticed that the English concept "glow" puzzled you. "Glow" is a synonym for "shine", except that "shine" connotes giving enough light to see by, while "glow" connotes merely giving off enough light to call attention to itself.

Answer

Hello dear Temlakos.

I understand, that the main aim is useful material, and I will take endeavor on translating and reading articles. Thank for your suggested help with translating. Than I don't understand one of the word I am using the vocabulary (e.t.c StarDict), but the trouble can be in understanding of all sentence or paragraph (piece of text).

About the word "Featured", [wrote] that the best meanings is Избранный (Selected), other offer is Интересный or Хороший or Примечательный (interesting, good, noteworthy).

So

or

Please advise. After your answer I will create such new templates.

For the future, other translations: - "Help wanted" is needed to translate as "Требуется помощь" - Discussion is Обсуждение проекта - Subject portals - Тематические порталы - Community is сообщество - Community Portal is Портал сообщества - Menu is Меню, but the best translation will be 'Список' (listing) in this case. So "Menu of articles" will be Список статей. Шаблон:Список статей

For the first time, my suggestion is to comment my operations on the talk pages (of articles, pages, tepmplates, e.t.c) in the English for you and other English-speaking users. After that it will be delete, may be.

Advice

Thank you, Alexander, for checking in.

The best word to substitute for the English word "featured" is "selected." So let's build these templates:

When building the selected article template, start with your translation of the article on "redshift." I like that one best of all. The second article to include is yours to decide. I have two suggestions:

 1. Complete the translation of en:Creation.
 2. Translate an article that I wrote yesterday, on a concept closely related to redshift: en:Dark energy.

Either one will do.

As to selected images, please look through the Media Archive and select the two images that appeal to you best of all.

Note that each template has its own category for items that we have selected in the past.

Note also how we mark an article or image as having been selected. See en:Template:Feature article and en:Template:Feature picture--those are the templates that we apply to articles and pictures. To apply it to an image, we create a page for that image in the same site where we have done the selection. The image itself stays in the Media Archive, but you can still create a descriptive page for it in the language-specific site.

I like the idea of a "listing of articles" template. Please copy your present list of articles into that template so that I can include it in the layout.

The News template will go under a heading called "Газета". Please include any items of news of interest to other Russian readers; don't worry about translating news items from our English "gazette." You will notice that the English en:Template:News contains a navigation routine to find other templates containing news related to many other subjects. You need not translate those right away, but as you begin translating other articles that include those templates, you can translate the templates and add items of news that appear in Russian media.

In Christ,

Answer

Everything ready, you can see it there | Alexander Korolev 23:17, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

More advice

Alexander: Thank you for preparing the templates. I have used them to build the Main Page layout.

I must urge you to shorten your Gazeta. The standard listing is not more than two lines in the editing window, so that not more than four lines per item show up on the Main Page display. Then end the listing with an external link to the news item. You may then grow the Gazeta with listings that are up to one year old. Try to imitate the style of the English version. Keep all news items in chronological order, beginning with the newest and ending with the oldest.

Everything else looks fine, and it makes a wonderful layout. And in this way, you can maintain control of the various contents.

The Main Page is the only page that we contemplate protecting.

I appreciate your translating the Terms of Service, and leaving the Russian language link at the bottom of the English version. In future, whenever you translate any article, please leave a language link in the English version so that I may know now to find it. I can run the "new pages" script to find any new articles that you create.

I suspect that you had difficulty with the English word "flagellum." That word refers to a part of a cell that gives it locomotion (that is, allows it to move on its own). The word derives from the Latin word for a whip.

You will notice that the article Planet has a number of template-like constructs and "operators" with which you are not familiar. Allow me to explain:

The construct is a semantic in-line query. It is part of Semantic MediaWiki.

The :: construct is the semantic assignment operator.

For details, please see Help:Semantics, Help:Semantic annotation, and Help:Semantic inline queries. You might also visit the official Semantic MediaWiki site. As of now, that site is translated into German and French. But the project does have a user's group. Apply here for details. For further details on how to get help from the developers of the Semantic MediaWiki extension, please see here.

You are not required to use semantic query constructs and operators yet--not until you would like to learn how to use the semantic system. We have plenty of articles that do not use semantic annotation. When you want to translate an article using extensive annotation, you might find that much of the annotation is in one or more templates. See, for example, Earth.

I suggest that you implement on the Russian site your own version of Help:Sandbox. That will give you a place to experiment with complete freedom--or as much freedom as a wiki site allows to a user who is not an administrator. Please also see Help:Practice page. The difference is that the Practice Page contains certain experiments that remain, so that new editors can learn how to use certain features. Happily, your command of MediaWiki editing is excellent. These are suggestions to allow you to gain advanced practice, and also to enhance the help system so that, if you can recruit other Russian editors, they can become as proficient as you are.

I further suggest that when you translate an article, watch it. The article might change. Happily, that does not happen often.

In Christ,

TemlakosTalk 00:55, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Oort cloud

Hello, br. Temlakos,

Could you please comment this article:

http://space.newscientist.com/article/dn14548-first-object-seen-from-solar-systems-inner-oort-cloud.html?DCMP=ILC-hmts&nsref=news5_head_dn14548

Does it demonstrate Oort cloud being? It will be help me in translation work.

Thanks in advance. God bless you. --Alexander Korolev 14:46, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Aleksandr:
The authors of the study you cited are trying to tell us that they have found the first-ever inner Oort cloud object. So if you want to know whether you have translated it properly, I think you have.
But I do not accept their conclusion that they have definitely shown that the Oort cloud exists. One object does not demonstrate a class of objects thought to include millions.
The object in question is probably a Scatter Disk Object (SDO). I believe that it was left over from Creation.
In short: Yes, you understood correctly what they were trying to say. No, I do not believe that they are justified in saying it.
--TemlakosTalk 19:22, 2 февраля 2009 (UTC)

War in Georgia, etc.

Dear Alexander:

Please do not imagine that I or any other administrator of CreationWiki has anything against you personally on account of the recent outbreak of war in Georgia.

I am far more interested in encouraging you to resume your editorial and translation efforts on our site.

I gather, from your decision to translate the redshift article, that cosmology is your area of interest. You also noticed my recent articles on dark energy and dark matter, though I don't think you had translated those. You might therefore be interested in our article on the theory known as the big bang.

Be advised also: Recently Mr. Ashcraft created several navigation templates to promote articles describing the most important concepts in various subject areas, like creation, cosmology, evolution, and science and its subject areas of astronomy/cosmology, biology, and chemistry. Because you are an experienced MediaWiki webmaster and developer, I trust that you can easily translate those templates and implement them on the Russian site. Those templates will also serve as a guide to the most important articles that we would like to see translated into as many languages as possible.

Now as regards the war: A full treatment of this war would be beyond the scope of CreationWiki. But long ago I wrote an article, titled Russia, in which I tried to give a comprehensive history of Russia, from its beginnings as ancient Scythia to the Soviet Union and after. I invite you to review it and tell me what corrections or additions I ought to make in it. (Or you can make those corrections and additions yourself, if you feel comfortable writing in English for an English readership.) You may if you wish comment on the recent war on that article.

Then I'd like to recommend one of two things:

 1. Translate my article into Russian, or
 2. Write the history of Russia, both ancient and modern, in your own words.

The history of even a "modern" country is well within the scope of CreationWiki if either or both of two conditions obtain:

 1. The country has ancient roots, preferably traceable to the Noahide Table of Nations (Genesis 10 ).
 2. The country is famous for the scientists born in it, the scientific discoveries made in it, or its present attitudes (favorable or unfavorable) toward the promulgation of the creationist message.

Both of these conditions definitely apply to Russia, in addition to our decision to open a version of CreationWiki in Russian. To the above I would add this: many Bible commentators identify Russia as the lead aggressor in a future attack by an anti-Semitic coalition against Israel as outlined in Ezekiel 38-39 . Any comment on whether that claim has any justice would definitely be welcome.

As you can see, I have quite a vision for the site. As ever, you can always ask Mr. Ashcraft or me for any assistance.

Your brother in Christ,

TemlakosTalk 12:27, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

My anxiety was about only one position showing in American TV, because as I know the situation was presenting as Agression of Russia, but seems that actually Georgia attacked the South Osetia and Russian Federation helps to resolve conflict on its border. The Ossetic nation was suffering with Georgian neighborhood.
War is always bad matter without any meaning and every hostilities are terrible. I think the devil is very glad to advice this action to heads of all states. I think also that American nation was deceived about real cause of the war as it is very often occurring with Russian nation by help of pro-government mass media.
I am trying to say that all governments are looking for his profit and does not telling the actual truth to his nations.
Thank you for understanding. Alexander Korolev 13:37, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Pool

Russian version of the Pool

Can you translate some names on the russian version of the Pool? Most of standard system links and heads are correctly translated by default, but these are not:

Alright - I setup the navigation panel on the pool/ru. The translations should now show and the appropriate links should now direct to the Russian site. Take a look and let me know if you see any problems.

--Ashcraft - (talk) 22:59, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Please provide the url for mentioned part of site (pool/ru), I have not found it. Alexander Korolev 14:08, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
I have translated Russian main page of the Pool. Please translate system message and parts of the menu:
 • You are at the media pool. - Вы на странице CreationWiki Pool, хранилища файлов.
 • Return to CreationWiki - Вернуться в CreationWiki
 • Latest files - Последние файлы
 • Random file - Случайный файл
Please answer (if it will be necessary) on my Talk Page. Thanks in advance. Alexander Korolev 11:23, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Russian version of the Pool

I have translated Russian main page of the Pool. Please translate system message and parts of the menu

Russian pool menu

I've underlained mentioned objects to translate on the screenshot, please correct it.

I was able to fix the Russian pool menu translations - including the "participate" heading. I also linked the Russian site directly to the Russian Media Pool main page. I'll have to take another look at the problem with the "Return to CreationWiki:" site notice again later.

--Ashcraft - (talk) 02:15, 8 февраля 2009 (UTC)

Right now, the link "Заглавная страница" (Main Page) in the main menu of the Pool links to English Main_Page. Please change it to Russian pool:Заглавная_страница. Also, please change the link Help (Справка) to Russian page Pool:Справка. --Alexander Korolev 09:14, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
The links on the navigation bar can only be set to one location. Although the text can be translated to match user preferences, the links can not be customized in that way. --Ashcraft - (talk) 18:16, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. Could you change "Russian language scheme" for all CreationWiki language projects ? As i see, in English site, some objects of the navigation bar are not translated. They are:
 • Main page means " Заглавная страница "
 • Media Pool means " Медиа-архив "
 • Subject portals means " Тематические порталы " or " Порталы по темам "
 • Help wanted means " Требуется помощь "
 • Discussion means " Дискуссия "
 • Browse properties means " Обзор связей "
There are some the same untranslated words in the menu of other sites in different languages.
Please note, it is necessary to translate the page and links of Browse properties feature.
 1. The name may be - "Просмотреть связи" in English "Browse links" (not "Просмотреть сайт" means "Browse site").
 2. No properties link to this page. - Нет связанных ссылок c данной страницей.
 3. hide properties that link here - Скрыть связанные ссылки
 4. shown properties that link here - Показать связанные ссылки
Could you explain careful (with example), that is "property" in this feature? Why there are not founded "properties" for any page? --Alexander Korolev 11:59, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Administrative questions

Nice to hear from you again, Alexander.

If you want to recruit users, then you are free to do so wherever you can.

If you want to know who has been making changes on the Russian site, the page Special:Recentchanges will show you that.

Now about registration: Right now, the only place where a user may register is the English site (which also grants privileges on all other sites), and the French site (for French users only). Mr. Ashcraft granted you the rights of a Sysop, but not those of a Bureaucrat. A Bureaucrat is an administrator having the privilege of:

 1. Accepting or refusing the applications of those who want to become users, and
 2. Granting to those users any privileges that they might require, that go beyond the normal privileges of a user.

Now at the moment, the registration of new users is in Mr. Ashcraft's hands. (Or, if they want to register on the French site, I handle that sort of registration.) Registering a few more Russian users might not be that great an administrative burden. But: if those users are going to submit applications in Russian, Mr. Ashcraft might then have a problem, because by his own admission, he does not read Russian.

Why not write to Mr. Ashcraft and tell him that you would like to handle your own registrations of users for the Russian site alone? Explain to him that you believe that you can recruit some new users, but are not sure that all those users can write in English, and since you know those people, you're willing to vouch for them.

Now in theory you can always create accounts in these people's names, make up passwords for them, and give those passwords to your new users. To do that, use the "Log in" link (or however it reads in Russian). The only problem is that you then have to send those passwords to the other users, and they have to change those passwords to something only they would know.

Or, Mr. Ashcraft can make you a Bureaucrat on the Russian site alone. That is not without precedent; in fact, I am the Bureaucrat for the French site, and can handle user registration requests from French-speaking users. (I don't get very many, but I'm the one who speaks the language, so it makes sense for me to handle any requests from French speakers.) I can even coach you on how to confirm account applications and manage user rights.

When you write to Mr. Ashcraft, be sure to give him an estimate of how many users you expect to recruit.

Actually, I have one favor to ask of you. You've written a great many articles on the Russian site, but I don't see very many language links. I'm sure that a number of English readers might like to know how a given article reads in Russian, and maybe some of your Russian readers would like to know how the Russian text reads in English. Now to do this, you add something like this at the bottom of any article:

en:Redshift

That causes a line labeled "English" to appear in the "other languages" box at the bottom of the sidebar (which appears to the left in most languages, including Russian). That link takes you to the English-language article. And then, in the English article, you need to add:

ru:(title)

where (title) is the title of the article in Russian, in the Cyrillic alphabet.

The reason I have to ask, of course, is that I can't review your Russian articles to figure out which English concepts they stand for. I can't read nearly enough Russian to do that.

Thanks for writing. As ever, you should reply on my own Talk page. Mr. Ashcraft prefers that we never watch one another's Talk pages for any length of time.--TemlakosTalk 18:13, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Collapsible tables

Alexander:

I see that one of your Russian users was putting Russian links on some of our English articles. Good! I have returned the favor, by putting English links on the corresponding Russian articles.

Then I noticed something else: You built your own Navbox, using the technology that Mr. Ashcraft and I had earlier imported from Wikipedia. But, of course, it used the English captions "show" and "hide" for expansion and collapse.

I went over to the Russian Wikipedia, found the Russian equivalents for "show" and "hide", and modified your file MediaWiki:Common.js to use the Russian words. You'll find that your Navboxes now work the same way but display only Russian, not English.

Again, if you need any assistance, you can always contact me or Mr. Ashcraft.

I love what you've done with the Russian site, by the way. But did you know that you can now use the Semantic engine to annotate things like dates and measurements? Now you can use the semantic type "Date" (or rather, the word for that in Russian) to create any property you wish. (That old "Historical Date" property that I had created earlier is now abolished.)--TemlakosTalk 01:24, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Alexander: I have tried several times to repair the template. I find nothing wrong with your code. If I can gain any further insight on where the trouble lies, I will let you know.--TemlakosTalk 14:09, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Update: Thanks for the above. But actually setting those means more than changing a MediaWiki system message. There's a PHP script called LocalSettings.php on the server itself. I shall have to set that, not you, because that is a Web development function.--TemlakosTalk 11:35, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
We are waiting for you, dear. Thank you! Alexander Korolev 05:18, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
Hello, Alexander! I will need some other phrases from you, and I'd rather ask you directly than get them from a machine.
English Russian Comments
This user may edit (and create) Talk pages only, and may not upload images. Данный пользователь может редактировать (и создавать) только страницы обсуждения и не может загружать изображения.
This user may edit (and create) all regular pages and upload images. Данный пользователь может редактировать (и создавать) любые страницы и загружать изображения.
Also, how do you say the word "undecided" in Russian? "Undecided" means one who has not decided what he is or how to declare himself.--TemlakosTalk 18:05, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
Update: Never mind the word undecided. That word must remain in English, as it is a user-group name. The two sentences are all that I need to have translated--so that a Russian applicant, once confirmed as a user, can have his user page made up in Russian instead of English.
The RequestAccount page on the Russian site now uses Russian user-request queue designators. I have put everything into its proper place. A user who makes an application in Russian will see an application form entirely in Russian.--TemlakosTalk 22:32, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
Hello, br. Temlakos. Thank you for your help. There is an error on the request page. In the phrase "Я прочитал и соглшаюсь следовать Условиям предоставления услуг проекта ТворенияВики. Имя, которое я указал в поле «Настоящее имя», действительно является моим настоящим именем." The word "соглшаюсь" must be "соглашаюсь".
I have tried to request a test account, with filling all fields but the system has returned "Ваша биография должна содержать не менее 1 слов." (You biography must contain more than 1 word) but the biography was about 20 words. Could you please explain?
P.S.For your further information the therm "undecided" may be translated as "не определился" (means "not selected" or "I am thinking...") or "не знаю" (means "I do not know") or "не указывать" (means "Leave clear"). Alexander Korolev 06:47, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. I will place those phrases into the settings file within twenty-four hours.--TemlakosTalk 19:31, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Account request configuration

Alex:

I have updated the local-settings file, so that your suggested text will be included when a Russian applicant (to the Russian site) has his account granted.

Concerning the minimum-words listing: I've already set the minimum-words value to 1 on all sites. I'd like to urge you to try editing it again and make sure that you're actually putting something into the Biography field. (Sometimes the console makes an error and blanks out a field in an application like this, so look closely to make sure that this is not happening during your tests. This fault is not unique to MediaWiki; I've had it happen to me on other sites.)--TemlakosTalk 16:02, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Thank you a lot! Please fix it. And additionally, could you please explain me in details the order of user registration. So, user is filling the application and press the button [Запросить учётную запись] (Request an account)... and ... ? Thank you in advance. Alexander Korolev 06:15, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
I have added the extra letter in that message. I believe that you have discovered a flaw in the "internationalization" of the MediaWiki software. Whoever translated that terms-of-service message into Russian, misspelled that word. But one of the major benefits of MediaWiki is our ability to repair or rewrite all kinds of system messages. From now on, and with every upgrade of the software, our own properly-spelled message will take precedence.
As to what happens when a user requests an account: After the user presses the button, his application is placed into a queue, one of three that we have defined. Then a more-senior administrative officer, called a Bureaucrat, must review all applications. He is the one who confirms or refuses all applications.
At the moment, the only officer having the privileges of a Bureaucrat on the Russian site is Mr. Ashcraft. He holds the Bureaucrat rank on all the sites. (In addition, I hold the Bureaucrat rank on the French site.)
May I suggest: If you have created an account request as a test of the system, let Mr. Ashcraft know, so that he can review it and let us both know that the software is handling these account requests properly. Then in future, as more of your Russian friends apply for privileges, if they don't hear back within twenty-four hours, let Mr. Ashcraft know that he has account requests to review.
Mr. Ashcraft likes to reserve such powers to himself until they become too great a distraction from his other activities; then and only then is he willing to recognize another officer with such powers. The reason is that a Bureaucrat may not only confirm new accounts but also may freely grant administrative privileges to other users. A time might come when the Russian site sees several new account requests a day, and he might then want to share the power to confirm new accounts, if only to relieve him of an administrative burden. When that day comes, he will let us both know. Then he can either elevate you to the office of Bureaucrat, or ask me to help him create a new group of users having the power to confirm other users, and then make you a member of this new group.
But he is very sensitive about people asking him for more authority than they already have, so it is better not to ask him directly, but rather remind him to check for new user account requests, and let him decide when he cannot handle the extra burden any longer, and when he ought to grant you such powers as would allow you to assist him.--TemlakosTalk 12:55, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Dear Temlakos, I am high appreciate your detailed answer. Thank you a lot.
The bad issue with registration in such fact that I do not know if anybody sent requests in the past. I think yes, but I am not sure. I know only one person who informed me about the problem in the registration. But may be he is not alone. I am afraid that we last some users who can be good authors or editors for us. Only three users (include me too) has been guess to register on the English site by filling the application in English. How many else ? I am not sure. That is the cause of my activity in registration request feature on the Russian site. I have asked Mr.Ascraft to let me know if any user has requested an account in Russian, but he does not answer about it.
I have no many time to be only one main head with the best powers of great project such as CreationWiki (or only Russian Creationwiki anyway), but I want to help it in start of growing. I think that the managment of such great project can be rapt in several hands more preferable (only my opinion). And once again I have not any plans to be "great" alone ruler. The permissions of the SysOp is enough for me. Thank you for understanding. Alexander Korolev 12:13, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Registration scheme + Contact link

Thank you for your help. Could you please explain step by step scheme how Russian users can receive an account to work with pages in Russian site? . Alexander Korolev 01:54, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

The registration operates there the same way it did when you signed up..
We generally discourage users from creating multiple accounts. Is there some reason why you signed up for two more usernames?
I noticed a problem with the operation of the contact link on your userpage - which I corrected by making a slight tweak to the userbox template. It was apparently causing a problem for usernames that were more than one word long. I tweaked the code on the userbox and made the same change on the Russian site. Your "contact" link works there now also.

--Ashcraft - (talk) 14:34, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

So, will you receive Russian application and grant the access for the accounts ?
I am trying to register a test account only. You can delete it.
I have understood the issue with the template but did not know how to fix it (because I could not change the name).
Thank you a lot! Alexander Korolev 14:52, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Russian users

Hello Dear bro Ashcraft. There are two Russian users (the names are Andrey and Dmitriy, may be Dima) asking me why registration is not working. Both supports several procreation sites and can help us in our work. They have tried requested the accounts and without expected results.

There was only a pending account for the latter of the two. The other either did not finish submitting the application, or perhaps he did it while the form was being configured. In either case, have him resubmit the form. --Ashcraft - (talk) 20:05, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

I added the RU-welcome template to the appropriate mediawiki file, so it will be added to the usertalk page automatically upon account approval.--Ashcraft - (talk) 20:21, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
I see, thank you very much! I have edit this too. Please check my other request as well. Alexander Korolev 20:38, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Sorting, etc.

To answer your questions:

 1. You may not copy anything from Wikipedia without attribution; we prefer that you rewrite it.
 2. Categories will always sort in ascending order. By default, articles in any category sort by the article's name. But you can change the sort key for categories in two different ways:
* By specifying the key inside the category call. For example:
* By setting the variable DEFAULTSORT. Example:

I will look over the Russia article as soon as I can.--TemlakosTalk 21:12, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Russian Users

Could you please grant access to users requested the registration of the account on Russian site (e.g. yevgheny) ? Thank you! In Jesus, Alexander Korolev 14:37, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

That user has not yet confirmed their email address. I've accepted the account, but failure to respond to the "email confirmation" autoresponder usually indicates they are not receiving the CreationWiki email.
If they didn't receive either email - an account will have to be setup manually.
Let me know.
--Ashcraft - (talk) 16:37, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Thank you, I will ask him and let you know. Alexander Korolev 17:29, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Russian Users

As I see, I have some misunderstanding regarding registration process. Could you please inform me the exact order how new user can take an account (step by step). It will be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Alexander Korolev 04:21, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

When they apply for an account an autoresponder goes out with a link to confirm the email address they provided in their application. Once the account is approved, a password is sent by a second autoresponder that the user may change in their user preferences. Typically I will wait and approve tha account after they have responded to the email confirmation.
One problem is that some users dont receive the initial autoresponse email. Some have the email filtered by their own email client - others appear to be getting hung-up on the server queue. Due to the persistence of the latter I plan to transfer the site to a new server soon with a different control panel. They now have some newer servers available and I think I can save a little money and improve performance at the same time.

Thank you! Only for my information, could you please tell me the price to hosting of CreationWiki. How much money does it cost in total? Alexander Korolev 13:49, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
I've been at a remote location for the past 80 hours, so I did not see your message. I have nothing to add to Chris Ashcraft's instructions about how to apply for accounts--except that I'm glad to learn of your recruitment efforts--and the success of those efforts.--TemlakosTalk 19:11, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Portal possibility

Hello dear brother. Please grant us access to creat the theme portals in Russian site. Thank you in advance. Alexander Korolev 07:24, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

You may create them at your discretion when subjects reach a substantial stage of development.

--Ashcraft - (talk) 16:51, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Could you please tell me what's the boundary must be reached ? We have many articles in the following categories and subcategories: Biology, Christianity Alexander Korolev 16:59, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

No - I'd leave that up to you. I didnt develop portals until there were numerous categories (dozens of articles) within a particular subject. You may well have reached that in the two subjects you mentioned.

The source provided for the following image does not appear to be valid.

The image can not be found on the webpage provided - and a thorough search of the site could not find an alternative page displaying the image.

http://creationwiki.org/pool/File:Ica_stone_heart-section.jpg

You also stated that "used by permission from Stan Lutz."

Clarify where you obtained the image. Did Stan provide you with that image personally? How was the permission obtained?

I have still not received a response from you regarding this image concern. Please advice.

Dashka stone

Hello brother. Could you please make a review of it and provide a comment if you have any. I mean a creationist position. Thank you in advance. Alexander Korolev 11:12, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

The file that was uploaded and placed on the Dashka stone violates U.S. Copyright Law as well as CreationWiki policy. The file will need to be deleted or replaced with a file that is not in violation.

http://creationwiki.org/File:Bashturist-ru_dashk.jpg

In short, images are only usable if explicit permission is given (CC license, Morguefile License, etc.) or they are not copyrighted, which means either the copyright has expired or they do not qualify for copyright (U.S. National agencies).

The Russian site contains an excessive number of Fair Use claims that were uploaded by user:Pilgrim. We should disallow any further use of that exemption and abide by US law.

If you request permission for image use, be sure to include the text of the permission in the Copyright Status formfield and specifically state where/how it was obtained.

Russian language in Pool interface

There are some issues with representation of pool in Russian language. I am administrator of Russian site but the change of system messages of the Pool site is not avaliable for me. Please change captions:

Done - let me know if it didnt come out right, or if you need other modification...

--Ashcraft - (talk) 13:05, 23 March 2011 (PDT)

2. the page http://creationwiki.org/pool/MediaWiki:Newimages/ru should be: Последние файлы

That is exactly what was there before you said to change it. I'm assuming you meant it should be: "Новые файлы"

--Ashcraft - (talk) 17:00, 23 March 2011 (PDT)

** sitesupport-url|Поддержать сайт

That wont work. The text for that label has to be changed here.

http://creationwiki.org/pool/MediaWiki:Sitesupport/ru

first link in the sidebar menu (called "Заглавная страница", or Main page in English) follows to "Main Page" (in English) instead of Заглавная страница (in Russian) as planned.

** Заглавная_страница|mainpage

I've made that change, but I dont think it will work. Let me know if it does or does not. I remember us discussing this once before and I told you it wasn't possible to direct that mainpage link to the RU-main page. However I think now that I was wrong and pretty sure I know how to make that work. Let me know and I'll give it a try.

--Ashcraft - (talk) 17:26, 23 March 2011 (PDT)

This link follows to English Main Page as well. So, please try to use other method in MediaWiki:Sidebar/ru. As I understand you want to change the text in MediaWiki:Ru-mainpage-url to 'Заглавная_страница' and use macros for the template of sidebar. Am I right?. Alexander Korolev 00:59, 24 March 2011 (PDT)

Well - I was right the first time. Its simply not possible to do that. The "MediaWiki:Sidebar/ru" will only allow you to customize the text of labels, but the destinations of the links or even the order in which they are arranged is governed by the parent "MediaWiki:Sidebar". The /ru version is simply a translational tool.. Sorry.--Ashcraft - (talk) 11:15, 24 March 2011 (PDT)
I see, thank you anyway. Alexander Korolev 04:52, 25 March 2011 (PDT)

Hi!

I hope you soon be back writing articles in Russian! Luiz Alexandre Silva 17:12, 4 May 2012 (PDT)

Hello!
I am monitoring Russian site of CreationWiki, but rarely (just for check if everything is ok and nobody didn't done any bad things) and do not login to my account.
How can I help you ? Alexander Korolev 13:10, 24 May 2012 (PDT)
I am making some edits in Russian creationwiki, but only to add interlinks with the portuguese.
hugs! Luiz Alexandre Silva 14:27, 24 May 2012 (PDT)
I see and I saw it. :-) God bless you! Are you Young Earth Creationist ? Alexander Korolev 16:00, 24 May 2012 (PDT)
When I enter CreationWiki I was certainly a creationist, but in doubt between Young-earth and Old-earth creationism. I was inclined to young-earth creationism but I had doubts about the dating methods. As a result of entering to the CreationWiki team, I bought many books. I also started to read some books I already had but never got time to read. One of then by John Morris: The Young Earth. And I found the arguments well established and I decided to stay with young earth creationism. When I was a teenager, I lived between two foreign neighbors. My left side neighbor was a regular Baptist pastor Leonard Meznar, a missionary among brazilian Jews. My right side neighbor was a Lithuanian woman, daughter of an Polish father and an Ucranian mother. She was born in Lithuania. Her husband was a German engineer so they fled to Brazil in World War II (I don´t know if after or before the start of the war). She taught me some basic classes of Russian but I do not remember almost nothing. Only 'das vidania', 'tovarich', 'sasha'. God bless you so much. Luiz Alexandre Silva 12:49, 25 May 2012 (PDT)
Thank you for this very interesting and entertaining story! :-) Correct tranliteration should be "dosvidania" and "tovarisch". Alexander Korolev 02:35, 28 May 2012 (PDT)

I am trying to contribute to CreationWiki, but I do not know how.

I was wondering if a chat room could be added to CreationWiki so that members can discuss changes that are done to this web site as well as other topics.

Also, I have a Creation search engine http://www.greenslugg.com/creation-search-engine.php that I think is really well done. I want to have a page made about it, but I do not know how to do that.

How to change my user name???

Dear Administrator: Is there any way I can change my user name? Because it will be easier for me to remember with a different user name, plus, the user name wouldn't show my real name. Please answer. Thanks! CDH31211811(The user name I wanted to use...)

Video embeds

From you:

Hello.

Could you please help us in embeded video on Russian site ? Internal method with specific mediawiki command like is not working. I have tried to prepare a template template:youtube (in russian), but it is not working too (mediawiki places into page tags, instead of real content). Thank you in advance!

Sadly, embedded video in secondary sites has been broken ever since CreationWiki transferred itself to the current host. And it has resisted every attempt I have made to repair the difficulty.--TemlakosTalk 18:44, 28 January 2014 (EST)
Could you please explain with details ? What is the reason of difficulty ? Alexander Korolev 18:49, 28 January 2014 (EST)
If I had ever discovered a reason, I could have repaired the difficulty long ago. I know the English version has no problem with embedded video. But that's because it is top-level. Every "second language" site, like the Russian CreationWiki, is a subdirectory of the English. And for reasons I have never been able to discover, the WikiMedia engine will not process embedded video at that level.

CreationWikis

Dear Alexander Korolev,

I edited the file: http://creationwiki.org/ru/%D0%A8%D0%B0%D0%B1%D0%BB%D0%BE%D0%BD:NUMBEROF/data.

This file should be updated as new articles are being made. Works similarly on Wikipedia.

I switched the values of 'en' to 'en2' and vice versa. So that the default uses the values read from the file and not system variables.

Hope this helps. God bless you!

In Christ,

Luiz Alexandre Silva 10:22, 5 February 2014 (EST)

It works! Thank you a lot. Alexander Korolev 10:27, 5 February 2014 (EST)

Hello. Could you please tell me if there is any internal simple method to move the file from any site to media pool ? Alexander Korolev 06:41, 9 February 2014 (EST)

Strange content

Alexander:

Concerning the three "strange" articles you mentioned: you can certainly understand them better than I can. We don't publish pseudoscience here. We're only interested in hard science that shows that creation is the true origin of the universe, the earth, and life, and how it took place.

I would advise removing those articles. I would also suggest telling the user who posted them that if those are representative samples of all the content he has to offer, he ought to shop it elsewhere. If he still persists, block him. As a sysop, you have that authority.--TemlakosTalk 05:54, 2 June 2014 (EDT)

Thank you! Alexander Korolev 05:58, 2 June 2014 (EDT)

Actually, you should have the privilege to delete media content from the Pool as well. The privileges of a sysop extend system-wide.--TemlakosTalk 06:40, 2 June 2014 (EDT)

Could you please help to make a decision. The user appeal (Google Translate) that these materials are about creationism and has positive response from famous scientists. Please note that is true, but all of these data looks like some kind of esoteric philosophy. It is about etic, philosophy and not aboout God as a Creator. Scientists that user meant are psychoanalytics, psychologists and philosophers, all humanitarian and non-christian. My doubts are connected with fact that material is non christian and looks like pseudo-scientific.

We don't accept a non-Christian perspective on creation. Any such thing would be the equivalent of accepting some kind of flesh-and-blood Progenitors who, billions of years ago, seeded the universe with the stuff of life to see what they could come back and reap later. Remember: I accept no God-substitutes. Neither should you.--TemlakosTalk 19:21, 6 June 2014 (EDT)

Yes. But the policy of creationwiki is argue that any creationists world-view may be accepted if the user accepts God as Creator. There are users - muslims and jews in creationwiki, as I know. Personally I understand that these materials of LightFairy are not acceptable for me as christian, but I have not enough points of rules for explain this for user officially from project policy (not as just private christian).

You might then want to appeal directly to Chris.--TemlakosTalk 19:37, 6 June 2014 (EDT)

Its true that we have been very flexible about allowing content, but the intent is for articles to be about science, apologetics, and related issues. Somehow the subject should connect to science or Biblical apologetics, and reflect the creationist viewpoint. That being said, I've always been very slow to delete content. But after looking through the subjects personal website that you provided - it looks like new age mysticism and I agree that your concerns appear well grounded.
As you've noted, deleting content can cause backlash from the author. To avoid this, engage the user about your concerns before deleting the material, and give them time to make adjustment or defend the work. Also a "Recommend Deletions" page can be very helpful. It gives other users that ability to vote to delete the content and take the criticism off the admin.
I didn't have a chance to look at the articles before you deleted them, but again based on the subjects website I will not recommend that you reverse your decision and uphold your decision.--Ashcraft - (talk) 18:23, 21 June 2014 (EDT)

Delete incorrect articles

> Could you please delete this incorrect article.

Hi Andrew. I tried to delete them also, but could not. They may need to be deleted at the database level, and I'm not sure I know how to do that.

BTW - I have upgraded you to "bureaucrat" on the Russian site. You should have been already. To be honoest, I'm not really sure what that gives you, but it may provide a few more administrative tools that you did not have before. --Ashcraft - (reply) 00:00, 8 December 2015 (EST)
