Scaffold-associated region also called scaffold-attachment region (SAR), scaffold/matrix attachment region (S/MAR) or matrix-associated element (MAR) are DNA sequences within eukaryotic chromosomes where the nuclear matrix attaches. SARs define loops of varying sizes and are commonly found in non-transcribed regions.[1]
