Rattlesnakes are venomous pit vipers best known for the manner in which they warn-off potential predators by shaking their tale rattle. Most rattlesnakes belong to the taxonomic Genus Crotalus, a name derived from the Greek word krotalon, which means "rattle". A few smaller (pygmy) rattlesnake species also belong to the Genus Sistrurus.
