Papua New Guinea (PNG), includes the eastern half of the island of New Guinea and many smaller islands, especially to the northeast and east (the western portion of the mainland is occupied by Indonesian provinces). In the southwestern Pacific Ocean, it is north of Australia and west of the Solomon Islands. The largest cities are Port Moresby (the capital) and Lae. Papua New Guinea (known to the citizens as Piugini), with a population just under 6 million, has hundreds of languages and traditional societies and is one of the world's least explored countries. Many species of plants and animals are thought to be undiscovered in remote mountains and rainforests. [1]

The significance of Papua New Guinea to creationist researchers includes cryptozoological investigations, in particular the ropen searches between 1994 and 2004 on Umboi Island and the indava searches of November, 2006 and March, 2007, on the mainland.
