The spider lily is a very unique type of plant. It has many flowers on one stalk and they can be many different colors. The flowers can be blue, red, white, yellow or a mix of all. These flowers are also very poisonous. The flowers have the ability to kill you if you eat enough of them because they are poisonous.

Anatomy

An aquatic spider lily, showing its spider leg-like petals.

The spider lily is found in Japan, and other parts of Asia, as well as in the US in many southern and southeastern states. They grow up to two feet and can become much bigger as well, but most plants are two feet tall. They can be yellow, blue, red, or white. They could also be mix of these colors as well. They have four decorative petals that come out of the lily and look like spider legs. They have tall green stems and long leaves. There are many flowers on each of the stems and form in clusters. One plant could have numerous flowers and look like a ball while another could only have one. How many flowers the plant has depends on the type of spider lily it is.

Reproduction

The flowers have different sexes on the plant. Pollination is often assisted by bugs. In a lot of the lily plants there is no difference between sepals (flower support leaves) and petals.

Ecology

The spider lily is found in almost all of the southern and southeastern states as well as Japan. The spider lily lives in all these places. Many different species live in all these places but they are all poisonous and can kill you. All of the species of spider lily live in other ecological areas. Some live in water and are aquatic; others live in the sun while others live in milder areas. Spider lilies are very common in Japan and the southern and southeastern states.
