Genesis and the Origin of Coal and Oil
- By Trevor Major

Description
Christians frequently are challenged by the existence of coal and oil. This is hardly surprising. Textbooks, teachers, and even ads on TV have bombarded them with the idea that fossil fuels formed gradually over long periods of time. However, Bible-believing geologists have begun to question this assumption. Research over the last few years has convinced them that coal and oil could form very quickly, and that the flood of Genesis 6-8 offers a reasonable framework in which to explain the origin of these vital resources.
All Christians do not agree on this point, however. There are geologists who, despite their belief in God and the Bible, cannot bring themselves to accept the extent to which the Genesis account conflicts with the “standard” geological theories. Also, there are well-meaning Christians who have decided that coal and oil deposits only look old because God made them that way to fool the unbeliever.
This booklet is for the Christian geologist who questions a literal interpretation of Genesis; it is for the well-meaning Christian who may want to reconsider his approach to apparent conflicts between science and the Bible; and it is for every answer-seeking believer.
