Tetrafluoromethane is commonly known as carbon tetrafluoride. This compound is not a very well known compound but is very important. It is a gas used as a high-temperature refrigerate. If exposed to fire for a a long period of time, carbon tetraflouride may react in a violent and explosive manner. [1]
Properties
It is the simplest known fluorocarbon and has a very strong bond due to it's nature. [4]
Occurrences
This compound is a greenhouse gas, which produces the greenhouse effect on the environment. Tetrafluoromethane is none flammable but when it is associated with alkali-metals, it will react explosively. It's a tinny but reactive to soluble in water. [3]
Uses
Tetrafluoromethane is a used as a solvent for a long list of substances. It is usually known as a low-temperature refrigerate. Also involved in wafer etch processes. Processes such as polysilicon, silicon dioxide, and silicon nitride. [5]
