Brachiopods, also known as lampshells, are marine invertebrates that look somewhat like a clam. They date back to the Paleozoic era and are known to have been represented by up to 300,000 species, but today there are less than 300 living varieties.

They prefer cold water, and can more commonly be found in the polar region.
