James P. Gills, M.D., is a Creationist that is the most experienced cataract surgeon in the world[1] and is the founder and director of St. Luke's Cataract and Laser Institute in Tarpon Springs, Florida. As noted by John Hopkins University, "In addition to his medical pursuits, Dr. Gills has been successful in real estate. Before establishing the James P. Gills Professorship in Ophthalmology, he made the lead commitment, with a gift of land, for the endowment of the Frank B. Walsh Professorship in Neuro-ophthalmology. Dr. Gills serves on the Wilmer Advisory Council."[2] Through Love Press, a subsidiary of the James P. Gills Foundation, Inc., Dr. Gills distributes his books to jails, prisons, and military bases within the U.S. free of charge.[3]

Arguments for Creationism

In Darwinism Under the Microscope, Gills and Woodward quantify irreducible complexity as similar to a mousetrap, where all the pieces must be present to confer an advantage. The authors quote Darwin's seminal work On the Origin of Species as saying,

If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed, which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down."[4]

The authors then present the complexity of the cell and other examples in establishing how Creation is irreducibly complex and function is not acquired until close to the end.
