Ichthys, from greek: (ἰχθύς, Ichthys ; fish), (capitalized ΙΧΘΥΣ or ΙΧΘΥϹ) is the Koine Greek word for "fish". The Ichthys symbol was adopted as a Christian symbol because it was related to the acronym for "Ἰησοῦς Χριστός, Θεοῦ Υἱός, Σωτήρ, Iēsous Christos, Theou Yios, Sōtēr" which in English means "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior."
