Darwin recanted on his deathbed (Talk.Origins)
Claim CG001:
- Darwin renounced evolution on his deathbed.
Source:
- Enoch, H., 1916. Darwin's final recantation. Bombay Guardian, 25 March 1916, quoted at http://www.forerunner.com/forerunner/X0724_Darwins_Final_Recant.html
CreationWiki response:
CreationWiki and Talk.Origins agree that there is no evidence for this. Even if he had recanted on his death bed it would not prove anything either way. And Charles Darwin was not the first to conceive of evolution.
It should be noted that Talk.Origins has used an obscure source that is not primarily creationist, let alone part of the mainstream creationist movement, which (despite Talk.Origins' inaccurate attribution) itself quotes another obscure source from 1966 that quotes a Bombay newspaper from 1916. The claim is not made by mainstream creationists groups, and in fact is denied by them, as shown by one of Talk.Origins' references to an article by Russell Grigg (not Greig as Talk.Origins has it).
