If they are wrong about this, could you please say what the source is for the claim that the population of light-coloured moths increased before the colour of the trunks changed. We can then cite the proper source in our response.

Thanks for your e-mail and sorry it took me so long to reply. I’ve seen your site and it looks like it is starting to house a lot of good stuff! In any case, if I understand you correct, you’re asking about whether light-colored moths returned before lichens returned to tree trunks, thus suggesting that the selection factor was not moths on tree trunks. Is that right? If so, I think that the discussion you seek is on pages 148-150 of Icons of Evolution, and the documentation for that section on page 302-303. I’m not supremely familiar with this particular point to know off the top of my head which paper you need to get. If you have Icons, I suggest you read it, check out the papers it cites, and you should find what you’re looking for. If that isn’t enough, let me know and I will see if I can get my hands on those papers for you. Thanks and keep me posted and keep up the great work.
