When scientists look at the dinosaurs, do they see what it would take for say, a common sauropod weighing 360,000 pounds to ambulate, function and be a viable life form in today's gravitational conditions? This is a phenomenal amount of pressure on bones, circulatory system, blood pressure, nervous system etc - affecting all aspects of the creature's existence. In addition, the lower part of the creature would be much larger than the upper part, owing to the need for structural strength to carry such weight. The common consensus is that no land animal larger than an elephant would be viable in today's gravity. Since reptiles continue to grow as long as they are alive, why have none of them grown to prehistoric proportions? An explanation would be that higher gravity today prevents this possibility. | |||
