Cadmium is one of the most toxic metals, and should be treated as such. The main method of absorption of cadmium in industrial exposure is by inhalation, therefore, industrial processes which generate cadmium dust or fume should be well ventilated. A single exposure to high concentrations of freshly generated cadmium oxide fume can cause severe pulmonary irritation and even death.
