The Center for Science and Culture of the Discovery Institute stablished an award they now confer every Darwin Day, the "Censor of the Year". The award it’s called for short COTY. COTY is a dubious honor, recognizing outstanding efforts in silencing debate about Darwinian evolution and alternative theories of life’s origins.[1]
Recipients
Year | Recipient | Rationale |
---|---|---|
2014 | Jerry Coyne | Discovery Institute’s "Censor of the Year" award recognizes success in choking off free speech on evolution and intelligent design. Jerry Coyne has made a campaign to censor Eric Hedin while teaching of Intelligent Design (ID) at Ball State University (BSU) in Indiana.[2][3] |
2015 | Neil deGrasse Tyson | Broadcast His Photoshopped Narrative of Science to Millions.[4] |
2016 | Commission on the General Conference of the United Methodist Church | The “leadership” of the Commission participated in deciding to exclude Discovery Institute from the church’s upcoming General Conference, and thereby censor discussion of intelligent design.[1] |
2017 | German Natural History Museum in Stuttgart | After coming out as an ID sympathizer in 2015, following his private exploration of the evidence for design in nature, Günter Bechly was the victim of retaliation and censorship by his institution.[5] |
2018 | Wikipedia[6][7] | Through intimidation and silencing of views counter to evolutionary orthodoxy Wikipedia, with its biased non-neutral point of view, erase articles of people related to Intelligent design like Günter Bechly and Walter Bradley.[8] The site's editors have engaged in a shameless campaign against the scientific theory of Intelligent Design (ID) and its proponents, drawing censure even from Darwinists.[9] On every entry for an intelligent design proponent, the site does not fail to describe the theory as "pseudoscientific." Even Larry Sanger, a co-founder of Wikipedia who personally rejects intelligent design, condemned the Wikipedia article on ID.[9] |
