German translations.

I would like to work on the German translation of the Creation Wiki. Is there a way for me to get write access to the German main page? The German text is full of mistakes and I would like to correct them. Evermann 16:25, 12 March 2008 (PDT)

All mainpages and a few other systemic pages are protected and access is restricted to the admins. You can, however, certainly fix them by either placing the corrected translations on the associated talk page or sending it to myself or one of the other admins. We'd be happy to insert those corrections. --Mr. Ashcraft - (talk) 17:46, 12 March 2008 (PDT)

Portal namespace in German creationwiki

I started working on the portal pages in the German creationwiki. I found out that there is no namespace "Portal:". This causes some technical problems. Could you make sure that such a namespace gets created? Thanks a lot for your help. Evermann 12:43, 13 March 2008 (PDT)

There is no need for Portals just yet. I would hold off on creating portals until a particular subject (category) has articles well in excess of 30. --Mr. Ashcraft - (talk) 14:16, 13 March 2008 (PDT)
I second the above. Last I checked, the German site had only 7 articles in it. As Mr. Ashcraft says, we need at least 30 articles needing any particular portal before we start building any.
But that brings up one other issue. What's the German word for the English word Portal? When we're ready for that namespace, I want to make sure that I name it properly.--TemlakosTalk 06:20, 15 March 2008 (PDT)

Schöpfungsmuseums und Bildungszentrums

You moved a page to "Schöpfungsmuseums und Bildungszentrums". Where do the -s endings come from?

Facility and organization names are generally considered descriptive titles - and should be translated. Schöpfungsmuseums und Bildungszentrums is AIGs published German name of their museum [1].

You added "Bibel Buch Übersetzungen" to a help page. Another page title that doesn't work in German.

You may suggest another title. I didnt create the file.

You just added "Museum" to the category "Bildung", which, too, sounds strange

Examine the category structural hierarchy and filename convention on the English creationwiki if it is unclear how they are organized. Generally speaking, they should be kept consistent.

1) usually faculty names are not translated in German. We call the MIT "Massachussets Institute of Technology" und nicht "Massachussets Technologieinstitut". (See wikipedia: [2]). Some more examples: [3], [4], [5], [6], all taken from the German wikipedia. Of course one could argue about the pros and cons of this.
Just some examples from the German language media:
[7] from the "Spiegel" (not the "mirror"), a very well known reputable weekly news magazine: "Auf den ersten Blick erscheint das Creation Museum in Petersburg bei Cincinnati wie ein Naturkundemuseum:" (engl: "at first glance the Creation Museum in Petersburg near Cincinnati appears to be like a museum of natural history") => Proper name, goes untranslated. Some lines down "Das Creation Museum zeigt auf mehr als 5000 Quadratmetern, "
[8] from the wikinews: "Petersburg (Vereinigte Staaten), 19.06.2007 – In Petersburg (Kentucky) haben Bibel-Fundamentalisten ein kreationistisches Museum, das „Big Valley Creation Science Museum“, eröffnet.". Name goes untranslated
[9] from the daily newspaper "Die Welt" (not "the world"): "Das "Creation Museum", 30 Kilometer südwestlich von Cincinnatti gelegen, verbindet Krippenspiel und Jurassic Park zu einer Museumskirche gegen die unfrohe Botschaft des Charles Darwin in den Naturkundemuseen."
[10] from the TAZ, a left-wing daily newspaper. First picture: "Demo vor dem Creation Museum in Petersburg - Foto: dpa" English: "Demonstration in front of the Creation Museum in Petersburg"
[11] from the "Süddeutsche" (south German newspaper)"Am Pfingstmontag wurde beispielsweise das Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky, eröffnet. " english: "on Whit Monday the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky, was opened".
Do you need more examples about how we name Museums from abroad in Germany? Our media do not translate "Creation Museum" and treat it as a proper name. Creation Wiki wants to be an encyclopedia, so for the German edition we need to stick to the way we do these names in Germany.
And even if you want to translate it: The sentence in question uses the words "Schöpfungsmuseum und Familienbildungszentrum" in the genitive. You picked your translation from the middle of a sentence and did not recognize the influcence of the German grammar.
What does that mean: I would like to move the page back to its English name.
Kind regards, Evermann 13:52, 15 March 2008 (PDT)
