Talk:Slavery
Why does a supposed loving god condone -- in fact give instructions for slave holding?
Please don't tell me 'because it was acceptable in that period' ... that's self-serving and not an answer.
When I speak to christians they tell me we need god to give us (humans) a 'moral basis'... without god morality would be 'relative'.
Yet somehow these same people recognize that slavery was once acceptable to god, and now its not... You simply cannot have it both ways.
Having read the entire bible I find it facinating that god -- having thought the 10 commandments important enough to write 'with his own hand' -- didn't think it important enough to tell us not to treat each other like cattle... but did find enough time to tell us in detail how to own, beat and otherwise treat our slaves. —unsigned comment by Earnric (talk • contribs)
You guys STILL use this argument.
1: There is more then one Hebrew for slave. One is closer to the word WORKER then forced worker.
2: you need to understand the culture. If a person could not pay their debt to someone else, it was customary that that person work his debt off. This person was labeled a "slave" but by no means is it what we think of when we hear to word slave.
I suggest searching the word slavery in this article
