Diodorus http://penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/E/Roman/Texts/Diodorus_Siculus/3D*.html Suggest that the Gorgons where originally just a Matriarchal Tribe that was latter mythologised into hideous monsters. I find the account above itself likely exaggerated but very plausibly based on real History. A possible Libyan origin for the Amazons in quite possible in light of what they Berbers call themselves, Amazigh.--MithirandirOlorin 18:31, 26 May 2011 (PDT)
Gorgon can also be rendered Gorgo or Gorgos. Comparing to other Etymological precedents I feel if they are based on a real tribe of people they could be connected to the Girgashite tribe.--MithirandirOlorin 18:31, 26 May 2011 (PDT)
