Talk:Bryant Wood
Proposal for extensive modifications to correct problems on this page
Entry by Latent 15:09, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
This article was originally created by pasting in material from an unreliable source. Shortly before the pasting was done into this site, that source had been taken over by an editor who entered several erroneous, undocumented or improperly documented statements that were meant to discredit Dr. Wood, and who successfully blocked almost all attempts to correct his errors, violating the stated polices of the site while he did so. An example of this is the second sentence on the present page; this biased, undocumented statement, intended to give the reader a first negative impression of Dr. Wood, was one of the first entries made by this person on the other Web site.
I intend to revise this page extensively in the next few days in order to present documented material to correct the many deficiencies of the article as it now stands. If you have any suggestions or comments, please contact me.

Explanation of major revision on 27 Sept 2008
From Latent 19:39, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
As I said above, the original entry was pasted from a site where an editor hostile to Biblical truth had modified the Bryant Wood article so that it gave biased and undocumented statements detrimental to Dr. Wood's scholarship. The present revision is meant to redress that inequity.
I realize that the article is too long. Several things should be split out to separate articles, so that the present article can refer to these only in summary. Sections that should be split out to new articles are: John Garstang and Kathleen Kenyon. Either a new article should be created on the problems with C-14 dating, or the discussion contained herein could be added to any article on radiometric dating, if there is such an article. One section that I already split out so that it could be referred to shortly in this article is the one on the Thera volcanic eruption. I intend to do the same to make this present article shorter.
Also, the biography section could be shortened. I left out the address part that was in the prior article; should this be added back in?
My reason for putting everything (except the Thera reference) in one place for now is so that the logic that vindicates Wood's scholarship could all be seen in one place. This is also the logic that shows the problems with Kenyon's 1550 date for the fall of Jericho City IV, a date which skeptics are bound to hang on to as long as they can (certainly longer than reason would warrant) in order to establish one of their "proofs" that the Bible is historically inaccurate.
Realizing that changes will be necessary, I nevertheless wanted to get this whole argument regarding Jericho presented in this place, and then later do the work to include it in the Jericho article. It was also necessary to replace the previous article with its basically anti-Wood and anti-Bible bias.
One thing the administrator could help me with: Bryant today sent me a photo that he said I could use, declaring it in the public domain. I uploaded this as BryantGWood.jpg. It is a small file. I couldn't get this to show up, so presently the older Bryant Wood.jpg file is used. Can we get the new file to load? Thanks.

- The new photograph is now linked. (Yes, I agree; the new photograph does its subject much greater justice.) Remember that the full title of any photograph is the prefix "Image:" (gives the namespace) and a file name plus extension. Remember also that titles are case-sensitive. "JPG" and "jpg" are two different strings.
- I'm going to nominate the old B&W picture for deletion, now that it's no longer linked to anything.
May I suggest: Write a separate article; call it "Jericho chronology dispute." Move all your Jericho chronology material to that article. Then give me a heads-up about it. I might put the Chronology Navbox onto it. Leave this artible as a biography only—and if you put in the date that Dr. Wood was born, then I can annotate that in case I want to query for "creation scholars born on such-a-date or later."--TemlakosTalk 00:18, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
A separate "Jericho chronology dispute" article is a good idea

I also want to split out the Kenyon entry and update the C-14 page with the relevant material, which would then be cited from the Jericho chronology dispute article. These things take time, but I hope to get to them sometime, D.V.

From Latent 18:50, 29 September 2008 (UTC) This has been done; there is now a separate Jericho chronology dispute article.
