Gigantopithecus: Difference between revisions

The Gigantopithecus is an extinct ape that was of unusual large size. This ape is guessed to have the weight of a [[polar bear]] (around 600 pounds) but this is only just for the smaller species. The larger male Gigantopithecus can weigh in to be around 1,200 pounds.[http://unmuseum.mus.pa.us/bigape.html] There are three different species of Gigantopithecus: Gigantopithecus bilaspurensis, Gigantopithecus blacki, and Gigantopithecus giganteus. Gigantoptithecus fossils have been found in almost a dozen different sites in China.
