Claim

L. Ron Hubbard was a great prophet that compares to Jesus, Buddha, and various other religious figures.

Response

1. Despite what his followers like you to believe, Mr. Hubbard most likely did not like the idea of being compared to Buddha. Miller Russel ,in his book "Bare-faced messiah: The true story of L. Ron Hubbard", points out that he had a great disdain for Buddhists and for far easterners. Hubbard is reported as saying "The trouble with China is, there are too many chinks here" and calls them "very odd and heathenish"

2. L. Ron Hubbard is far from the moral person his followers paint him as:

  • He was a known racist. In his book "Scientology: Fundamentals of Thought", he says that "Unlike the yellow and brown people, the white does not usually believe he can get attention from matter or objects. The yellow and brown believe for the most part ... that rocks, trees, walls, etc., can give them attention" and "...so we see the African tribesman, with his complete contempt for the truth, and his emphasis on brutality and savagery.
  • Within Hubbard's cult, he founded a sub-order called SeaOrg. When on the high seas, his true character shined through. Like most cult leaders, he had inappropriate sex with underage girls and brutally punished anyone who got in his way(Atack 1990).
  • His wife and many of his close friends were convicted of conspiracy against the United States federal government. This calls into question Mr. Hubbard ethics by association [1].
  • There is some evidence that the stole millions of "church" funds to raise money for his over seas operations. [2]
