Plural set categories
Topic categories like "Jesus" and "Israel" should be singular, but set categories like "priests" and "countries" should be plural since those are a list of priests and countries. For example, the set category about countries is not about the definition of a country and what makes a country but a list of many countries. Upon creation of new categories, it should be recognised if its a topic or set category. There are many set categories on CW that use the singular form (like Category:High_priest) and all those pages should be moved to a category in plural form. This is however a massive and a tedious task. The next two chapters below lay out possible solutions. However, the sooner this is done, the better, since as time progress, more articles could be added to those categories and in case no automatic solution would be possible, the task would be even bogger. --Karjala (talk) 14:32, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
- Years ago we adopted lower-case singular convention for all categories. That eliminates variability of category names and allow them to be more predictable by users. --Ashcraft - (reply) 17:23, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
Moving pages between categories en masse
Above a laid out the problem, an ideal solution would be a tool that would dictate to change all the pages in "category X" to "category Y", if the admins could find such a solution and move to articles to plural set categories easily that would be the ideal solution. --Karjala (talk) 14:32, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
Installing HotCat extension
Installing the HotCat extension (https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:HotCat) would help a lot in the time consuming task of categorizing. In case the tool the moves a lot of pages between categories is not found, this extension would be a non ideal solution but a at list it would make changing categories faster. --Karjala (talk) 14:32, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
