Summary
An 80-year old non-riverine swamp forest in the eastern part of the Great Dismal Swamp, near the headwaters of the Northwest River, City of Chesapeake. Red maple (Acer rubrum), sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua), bald cypress (Taxodium distichum), and water tupelo (Nyssa aquatica) share overstory dominance, while ferns and common greenbrier (Smilax rotundifolia) are abundant in the lower strata.
