Summary
Higurashi, 日暮, 蜩, Evening cicada, (Tanna japonensis) Host tree; Hinoki, 桧, Japanese cypress, Chamaecyparis obtusa
This is beautiful cicada in color, the upper body looks like turquoise pendant, and lower body transparent, wings glassy. Distribution is in East Asia.
Chirp of this cicada is most popular and loved by Japanese people. I love it too. It is melancholic and nostalgic. Japanese people hear it as "Kana kana ..." so, this insect also called "Kanakana"
Hear the sound of Higurashi
Higurashi means "inviting sunset". THis cicada chirps in the dim light, so it chirps much in the dawn and dusk. In a shady grove, it chirps all the day.
