Summary
About a foot long, this deepwater vampire squid is among the most fascinating animals on earth. It has eight arms, and then another pair of thin arms tucked into pockets outside the web that connects the eight arms. The body is velvety brown. Even though it appears gelatinous, it is a strong swimmer that can be found buzzing around in deep waters. The vampire squid is rather small, reaching a maximum of 6 inches. It has numerous photophores and is bioluminescent.
