Summary
The Hittite Monument of Sultanhani
The Hittite monument with hieroglyphic inscription was found in Sultanhani which is 50 km from Kayseri. It is composed of two parts, a base and a stele which were unearted on two different occasions. The base known as Sultanhani I Inscription was found during the construction of the Kayseri-Sivas railway in 1928. The so-called "Sultanhani II stele" was later found in 1939 in a villager's field.
The monument was erected by vassal (rulaer of a town) Wassume in the name of the god Tarhui for a better crop from vineyards and orchards, as a gift for the god. At the end of the inscription, there is a section concerned with the damnation of the ones who will give harm or destroy the monument.
