Summary
Indian Pipe is an unusual plant with no chlorophyll. It gets it's energy from a myco-heterotrophic (parasitic) relationship with fungi. This allows it to live in dark places and this one was growing under dense oak scrub in heavy shade at Juno Dunes Natural Area. It has pretty yellow anthers but I didn't want to endanger the plant trying to get a shot of them. This individual has just a trace of pink.
Indian Pipe's status in South Florida is imperiled.
