We have Biblical sources (spanning from 1512 B.C.E. to  460 B.C.E) and non-Biblic historians (spanning from the 2nd century B.C.E to the 3rd Century C.E.) testifying to the fact the Phoenicians (members of Canaanite religion) did sacrificed children. We have archaeological sites; although in past somewhat controversial, are recognized by many as "tophet" sites, burial site for the remains sacrificed children. - '''See:''' ('''http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2544728/Ancient-Greek-stories-ritual-child-sacrifice-Carthage-TRUE-study-claims.html''').

It is note-worthy because the Bible is such a candor book. Unlike the other nation's records, who neighbored Israel, records from the Bible repeatedly document the Israelite's own failures. It is unimaginable they would make up this about their own king who was to provide the very lineage to the foretold Messiah.
