Caesarea Maritima

Caesarea Maritima was a city built on the shore on the Mediterranean Sea by Herod the Great about 25–13 BC. It was considered a magnificent jewel of the Roman Empire and was indeed the greatest engineering wonder of its time. Her beauty was to be a testament to the might and grandeur of Rome and built to honor Caesar Augustus. From massive stadiums and temples to Herod's promontory palace, Caesarea Maritima was the Roman equivalent of Jewish Jerusalem. It was constructed to rival the City of Zion and become the Roman "Jerusalem," and the Roman capital of Palestine for more than five hundred years".

Embryology

Embryology is the branch of developmental biology that studies the beginning and early growth of sexually reproducing organisms. This life science specialty focuses primarily on embryogenesis (the formation and development of embryos). Since the time Charles Darwin published The Origin of Species, embryology has been used to support common descent. In fact, Darwin referred to embryological homology as the strongest single class of facts that existed to support his theories. A theory later put forth by Ernst Haeckel, known as the biogenetic law, asserted that the evolutionary history of an organism was recapped during embryo development. Although the biogenetic law is now discredited, in recent years, embryology has reemerged as a tool used by evolutionary biologists that attempt to establish phylogenetic relationships by identifying developmental similarities between taxonomic groups. Evolutionary developmental biology is a merging of developmental biology and evolutionary biology that is commonly known as "evo-devo".

James Ossuary

In October of 2002 the Biblical Archaeology Review announced the discovery of a 2,000-year-old box which might be the ossuary (“Bone Box”) of James, the brother of Jesus. On the side of the bone box is inscribed in Aramaic: “James, son of Joseph, brother of Jesus”. As the inscription was the first historic record found of Jesus apart from manuscripts, its authentication could prove to be the most significant New Testament find in modern times. The ossuary has received much public scrutiny since its discovery and well publicized trial following an accusation of forgery by the Israel Antiquities Authority. However, with the collapse of the prosecution's case, it appears the trial will end in vindication for the defendants and those who have consistently supported the authenticity of the inscription.

Artist's conception of a black hole

A black hole is a region of space whose gravitational force is so strong that nothing can escape from it. A black hole is invisible because it even traps light. The fundamental descriptions of black holes are based on equations in the theory of general relativity developed by the German-born physicist Albert Einstein. The theory was published in 1916.

Passion flower

The Passion Flower is the common name for the extravagant flowers produced by over 500 species in the genus Passiflora. They mainly grow in vines and produce herbs, flowers, and fruit. The herbs and some specific species of the flowers can be used for medical purposes such as relaxants and tranquilizers. The plant produces berry-like fruit, such as the passion fruit or granadilla. Flowers can be found world wide including the south eastern parts of the U.S. where about nine species are located.

Rhinoceros Beetle

  • Alien life question raised again. An American scientist made an astonishing proposition to London's Royal Society: that microbial life might have had more than one single ancestor. The secular press took that to mean "extraterrestrial" life. Creationism Examiner, 27 January 2010
  • 'Dark' matter and energy 'proof' exaggerated—again. Astronomers find the same apparent ratio of "dynamical" to "luminous" mass at the edge of the universe as near to us. As ever, they insist that this somehow "proves" the existence of "dark matter"—when in fact it proves no such thing. Creationism Examiner, 26 January 2010
  • Ancient Hebrew text supports early origin of Bible. A pottery shard recovered from a place near the Elah Valley in Israel contains a text, written in middle Semitic script, that has now been determined to have been in Hebrew. This shows that Hebrew has been a written language for far longer than secular archaeologists previously believed. Creationism Examiner, 15 January 2010
  • Spectacular find of "395 million year old" fossil footprints wreaks havoc on the evolutionary tree. The Polish fossil footprints resemble that of a salamander, complete with toes, and precede all of the "fishopods" like Acanthostega and Tiktaalik. Tiktaalik was presented as transitional evidence from fish to land-walking animal, but it was assumed to have only fins - not feet. Evolutionarily speaking, the Poland find shows that feet were already around long before Tiktaalik.
