Tulips are a genus of about 100 species in the family Liliaceae. The tulip is a very popular garden flower that is found all over the world. In the late 1800's the tulip was something of a obsession for gardeners. They where all striving to create a black tulip, and although they got them very dark purple but never black. It wasnt until later that it was dicovered that creating a natural black tulip was in fact impossible.

Anatomy
Tulips are perennial bulbous plants that can grow up to 70 cm tall. The flowers themselves consist of 6 tepals and a number of disk shaped petals. The stem of the tulip is rather thick and sprouts a large amount of waxy textured leaves.
Reproduction
Tulips reproduce sexually through seed, and vegetatively by underground bulbs.
Ecology
The Tulip plant is native to southern Europe, northern Africa and Asia. They require cold winters to grow properly and therefore cannot grow in the tropics.
