Sumer (Hebrew: שִׁנְעָר, Shinar; Akkadian: Šumeru; Sumerian: KI-EN-GIR, "Land of the Lords of Brightness") was the earliest known civilization in the world located in southern Iraq, known as Mesopotamia.
