Anatomy

The Siberian tiger is a very fierce tiger. In 1998 there were recorded to be 360-406 Siberian tigers still alive. The average height of the Siberian tiger is, for the male, 8 feet 8 inches-10 feet 9 inches, and for the female, 7 feet 11 inches-9 feet. The average weight for the Siberian tiger for the male is 419-675 pounds and for the female 221-368 pounds. The tiger can run up to 50 mph but it's only able to go that fast for short distances. The Siberian tiger has the paler fur and sometimes white, depending on its climate, and their stripes are dark brown.

Reproduction

The tigers don’t start hunting until they are 2 or 3 years old. Even though the tigers are completely helpless when they are born the mom has to leave them to go and hunt. The tigers usually breed in the colder months of the year, and the tigers are born 2-3 at a time. The cubs usually weigh 2-3 pounds at birth, which is a huge difference than when they become full size. The cubs usually nurse on their mothers’ milk until they are 6-8 weeks old, then they are introduced to meat. The mother helps the cubs hunt until they are about one to one and a half years old. Then the tiger goes out on its own. They are fully mature at 3 years old.

Ecology

The Siberian tigers have their set areas were they live. Around 80% of Siberian tigers live in scrub oak and birch woodlands, which is mostly in Eastern Russia. With the tiger's thick fur, they can live in cold tempatures to -41 degrees celsius. The white fur on the tigers chest and the brown stripes help camouflages the tiger in its surrounding environment. The Siberian tiger mostly hunts in the nighttime because of its night vision. Their diet is 85% completely of red deer and wild bore. The tiger has 6 times better night vision then humans. The tigers territory is usually up to 1000 kilometers.
