1997 AM) is the first named son of Eber. He was born in 1757 AM. He had at least one known brother, Joktan.

The name Peleg means "division," and Genesis 10:25 states that "in his time the earth was divided." There is speculation that this means he was born around the time of the Tower of Babel, and so some use Peleg to derive an oproximate date of the scattering of languages. Another speculation is that in his time the earth was mapped, or even that some sort of tectonic activity had occured in that time period. The first two possibilities seem most likely.
