- This article concerns the Old Testament prophet. For his book of prophecy, see Jeremiah (book).
Jeremiah (Hebrew: יִרְמְיָהוּ, Standard Yirməyáhu; "the Lord will raise") was a prophet during the fall of Jerusalem. He is sometimes referred to as "the weeping prophet" because of his empathetic writings for the suffering of his people (both in the present, before his eyes, and in the future, through prophecy). He was, by far, the most prolific of the Old Testament prophets.
