Estimated Birth Date

The year of Issachar's birth is estimated at 2194 AM, on the basis of the earlier history of the births of Jacobs sons, averaging one a year beginning with the birthday of Reuben. The season of Issachar's birth is estimated to have been in the springtime, on this basis:

  1. Reuben gathered mandrakes (Mandragora officinarum) for his mother Leah the year before, during wheat harvest.
  2. Wheat harvest is actually the ninth month of the ancient year, with the first month being the first month of autumn.
  3. Jacob likely sired Issachar on Leah no later than the next month, which was the first month of summer.

The birth of Issachar would, of course, have taken place about nine months later.
