Introduction
Germanium is number 32 in the periodic table. It is also a metal. [1] This element is a gray-silver color. [2] Germanium comes in two kinds of forms: organogermanium compounds, and inorganic germanium compounds. [3]
Properties
Germanium is a mineral, and a semiconductor. A semiconductor is a element that attracts electricity but not all that well. Being a metal, Germanium has a shiny luster to it. [4]
Occurrences
Germanium is much harder to get than other elements, it is spread out much wider than other elements because the minerals only contract only small amounts of it. [5] Nowadays Germanium is collected from smelting zinc. [6]
Uses
Germanium is used as a semiconductor inside transistors and circuits. Germanium is also mixed with other elements to make other compounds for other purposes. For instance, germanium oxide is put into glass and used for infared machines and other things. [7]
Health
While Germanium does have some positive effects to your health, it also has some very bad ones. According to scientists, if you take a certain amount of Germanium each day it helps improve your immune system and several other helpful effects to your body. [8]
