Carl Sagan (1934 – 1996) was a famous astronomer, astrobiologist, and novelist who popularized the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI). He is perhaps best known to the general public for writing and hosting the television miniseries, Cosmos, first broadcast in the U.S. on PBS in the 1980's.
