Nebula theory

The nebula theory is the most generally accepted evolutionary model for formation of the solar system. The process starts with a rotating cloud of gas that contracts and flattens to form a disk of dust and gas around a forming star at its center. Planets grow from the dust and gas in the disk and are left behind when the disk clears.
The nebula theory should always result in the same basic pattern, with the heated inner disk forming terrestrial planets and the cold outer disk forming gas giants. It should also leave each planet revolving around the sun, and rotating about its axis, in the same direction as the rest,...

Global flood

The global flood or flood of Noah is an event recorded in ancient histories in various forms across cultures worldwide. The entire world was covered with water as divine punishment, and only a small number of humans and animals survived. The account in Genesis is the best known and the most detailed account, but the same events are described in the Islamic Qur'an, the Book of Jubilees, and the Book of Enoch. Direct references occur in the Critias and Timaeus of Plato, and the ancient Babylonian Epic of Gilgamesh.

Anticreation

A recent Newsweek poll found that about 91% of the population in the United States believes in God, and 48% believe that God created humans in their present form within the last 10,000 years. Despite these high numbers, we find the views of creationists are mocked by the media and actively discriminated against in public schools. A number of organizations and even the National Academy of Sciences (a US national government agency) actively opposes creationism and lobbies to keep these views from being taught in public schools. Most, if not all, such groups are motivated by a philosophical opposition to biblical creationism, and counter with argument derived from naturalistic scientific research.

Cell Biology

A cell is generally defined as a single unit or compartment, enclosed by a border or wall, which is usually part of a bigger structure. In biological terms, cells are the structural and functional units of all living organisms. Living cells illustrate overwhelming evidence of intelligent design due to their many irreducibly complex molecular machines. Cells are so tremendously complicated that we are only beginning to understand their internal workings, and indeed many functions within the cell still remain a total mystery.

Galaxy

A galaxy is a large group of stars and interstellar gas and dust moving around a common center of gravity. The term galaxy comes from the Greek root galakt, which means "milk" (a reference to our own Milky Way). There are probably more than one hundred billion (1011) galaxies in the observable universe, which average near one hundred billion stars each. Galaxies range in size from dwarfs with as few as ten million (107) stars up to giants with one trillion (1012) stars.

Dinosaur

The name Dinosaur comes from the Greek deinos (terrible) and sauros (lizard). The word was first coined by Sir Richard Owen, a creationist. Dinosaurs are a group of large extinct animals classified as reptiles. According to the traditional paleontological interpretations of Earth's history, the dinosaurs are believed to have dominated the ecosystem for more than 100 million years. It is furthermore believed that they went extinct about 65 million years ago, about 55 million years before the first humans appeared on Earth. However, most creationists believe that dinosaurs coexisted with mankind on Earth and lived recently.

Creation vs. Evolution

Evolutionism is the belief in the theory that life on Earth is simply the result of random, natural processes, and ultimately attempts to explain the existence of humans through mechanisms other than divine creation. The theory of evolution (or general theory of evolution) is a philosophical perspective that stems from an atheistic worldview. In contrast, creationism is the belief that the universe and life on Earth were created through a supernatural act of God. The creation is described by cultures all over the world where one central theme is found to emerge - order from chaos.

Mt. St. Helens

The eruption at Mt. St. Helens on May 18, 1980 was an important geological event because we observed and documented large-scale catastrophic processes, which are extremely rare occurences. For creation science, the event was most notable because of the rapid deposition and erosion that provided a sizable model of the type of activity likely to have taken place during the great Biblical global flood of Noah. The work done at the volcano during its eruption by geologist, Steven Austin, et. al. to document this event is a highly recommended study.

Index to Creationist Claims

The Talk.Origins Archive has a website titled Index to Creationist Claims, which is a list of rebuttals to creationists arguments against evolution. The majority of the list was published in 2005 as The Counter-Creationism Handbook. Some of these claims are indeed used by creationsts, some are not, and some are simply uncommon. It should also be noted that not all of the objections raised by Talk.Origins are incorrect. In any case, it is important that we have responses to this counter-creationism list. Therefore, the following pages are responses from creationists to each of these rebuttals.

Science

Science is the name given collectively to the methods used for gaining objective knowledge and insight about the cosmos, and the organized body of knowledge gained through this process. Science does not represent a unified collection of homogeneous truths. Rather, the sciences are a varied collection of information with varying degrees of reliability. In the past two centuries, attacks against the Christian faith have grown at an alarming rate. Critics have tried to use all possible fields of study and investigation to assault the Bible. In the minds of some, "science" has turned out to be their best weapon.

Animal Kingdom

Animals are broadly categorized as invertebrates and vertebrates. The latter contains the familiar types such as mammals, amphibians, birds, fish, reptiles, which includes most domestic pets such as the ordinary house cat. While the former consists of those with or without an exoskeleton like the insects, crustaceans, jellyfish, worms, etc. All members of Animalia are heterotrophic, multicellular eukaryotes.

Microscopy

Microscopy is any of a number of techniques that use instruments, which produce images too small to be seen with the naked eye. Microscopy is typically used in microbiology and cell biology, but also in the investigation of the microstructures of metal or other materials. Using microscopic techniques, the intelligent design inherent within the created world becomes clearly evident.

Plant Kingdom

Plants comprise a major group of multicellular eukaryotic organisms, known as the Kingdom Plantae. All plants were created on the 3rd day of creation, including familiar types such as trees, herbs, flowers, and ferns. Botany is the field of biology dedicated to studying plant structure, function, and growth requirements. The importance of plants, and therefore, our understanding of them can not be overstated. They are an integral part of the Earth's ecosystem and without them life as we know it would not be possible. Plants are known as autotrophs or producers, because they make their own food through photosynthesis, and consequently serve as the ultimate source of chemical energy for the rest of the food chain.
